ABOUT THIS SHOW
Before the Æsir, there were the Vanir.
The Fox & Beggar Theater presents a dramatized fundraiser for VANAHEIMR— an upcoming site-specific winter spectacle fusing Neo-Nordic folk music, modern dance, fire dance, classical theater, and shadow puppetry. Through an original script composed entirely in verse, VANAHEIMR reimagines the prophecies of Ragnarök from the unique perspective of the Vanir of Nordic mythology; examining themes of militarism, cultural collision, and social collapse.
Join us on the longest night of the year for a lavish preview of the script. Twelve artists will be performing the complete theatrical narrative inside a wintry set using live music, shadow puppetry, and dance.
Afterwards, the director will formally present the full visionary scope of VANAHEIMR as the project begins its year-long journey of production, culminating in a series of free community-driven performances held outdoors in December 2023. Next year’s run will feature a cast of twenty-two performers and puppeteers as well as choreography from Kristin Freya of Vox Medusa and Rah Diavolo of Infiammati Fire Circus.
The evening will conclude with complimentary cookies, cider, and music from RED THREAD + THE LACEWINGS, while audience members have a chance to meet and greet the artists.
