Universal Theater Explorers – Your Process Will Nourish You
Sunday, June 25 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
No cost to participate
Artists often come up against pushback to their creative autonomy, especially if they are Black, Native, a person of color, living with disabilities, queer or trans, or otherwise marginalized by white supremacy and cisheteropatriarchy. Producers, venues, funders, and sometimes even teachers & collaborators will infringe our boundaries. When our boundaries are better defined, we are in a better place to communicate and maintain them. In this workshop, hosted by Kat Purcell, we will look at case studies and then transition to exploring our own sense of autonomy via artistic creation. We will draft out experimental arts processes and discuss how those processes nourish and fortify our confidence, sense of self-determination, and relationships. We will also explore how this affects our relationships with our communities. This workshop is great for artists who want a space to think through entering the professional field, starting collaborative relationships, or how to advocate for a new work.
Universal Theater Explorers is a program designed to connect young people, especially BIPOC youth, to the tools necessary for skillbuilding and professional growth and form strong community connections between youth and established artists, especially multidisciplinary artists, ones with unconventional career path and artists of color.
