Rodney and Helen – An Extraordinary Duo!
Sunday, October 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
No cost to participate
The Minnesota Sinfonia’s 35th Winter Season starts on October 20th-22nd joined by Rodney Marsalis, award-winning trumpeter, and virtuoso violinist Helen Chang Haertzen. Together with the Sinfonia, they will craft a delightful presentation of the ‘Concerto for Trumpet and Violin in D Major’, Johann Sebastian Bach’s adaptation of Vivaldi.
The Sinfonia will also offer Tchaikovsky’s timely ‘The Seasons – September and December’, as well as Artistic Director Jay Fishman’s heartfelt homage to his mother, ‘Yizkor for Mom’. After an intermission, Rodney will again be featured in Giuseppe Torelli’s ‘Concerto for Trumpet in D Major’, described as “a little sparkler… with a joyous finale”. The concert will close with ‘Symphony No. 96 in D Major’ (The Miracle) by Franz Joseph Haydn – no falling chandelier, but “music that is cracking, full of verve and gumption”.
As always, the approximately 90-minute long program features free admission with no reserved seating, so come early for the best seats. Children are welcome and their attendance is encouraged – we hope to see you there along with your family and friends!
