Equity as Action: What do we DO differently to become more equitable and inclusive?

Tuesday, January 22, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

No cost to participate

It’s not just what we do, but how we do it that matters. Many groups and organizations have made a commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity, but are not sure how to infuse this throughout their policy, process, programs, and activities. Often, it is difficult to know what to do after the commitment has been made, the bullet point added to the strategic plan, the feedback has been received, or the priority has been set. What do we DO to become more equitable and inclusive? What comes next?  Where do we go from here

Wherever you are in this work, you are invited to bring your questions, bring your challenges, and bring your story. We will get started together to help you figure out your next step. This is the first session in a three-part series.

Presented by Julie Bates MacGillis of Julie Bates MacGillis Consulting. Julie is a biracial consultant respected for her design and facilitation of powerful programs and initiatives that advance equity and inclusion through values-based design. Mission-driven and community oriented, Julie has placed racial equity and community engagement at the center of her work for 15 years. An innovative thinker dedicated to impact and sustainability, Julie works with organizations, companies, and foundations to help connect values to action, implementing and embedding equity, inclusion, access, and organizational values throughout their work and practice with depth and integrity. This workshop was offered in October and November 2018 and if you attended one of those sessions, it is not advised that you attend again as the content is the same.

Equity as Action (A Three-Part Series) offers a framework for thinking about equity as action; an approach to implementation; and new tools and practices for you to try within your work and organization. Wherever you are in this work, you are invited to bring your questions, bring your challenges, and bring your story. We will get started together to help you figure out your next step.
Part 2 of this series, Three Key Questions: Why Equity? Why Us? Why Now, is scheduled for January 29 and March 3; part 3, Key Mechanisms for Equity: Power, Access, and Resources, is scheduled for February 12 and April 9. You must attend session 1 Equity as Action: What do we DO differently to become more equitable and inclusive? to be able to take parts 2 and/or 3.

Please contact MRAC at 651-523-6388 or bethany@mrac.org if there are any accommodations that would help you maximize your experience in this workshop.
