Complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) can feel daunting if you’re just starting out. But it only takes a little time, training, and creativity to get started on this journey. In the first hour of the workshop you’ll get a brief introduction to the ADA guidelines as they relate to arts organizations and identify some common access strategies. The second hour is devoted to getting you started: learn how to conduct an accessibility audit and begin building your ADA Access Plan using tools we provide. This workshop will be most useful if you bring at least one other person from your organization, but even if you’re flying solo you’ll get a jumpstart on developing a plan and gain valuable tools to bring back to your collaborators.
Submitting a Board-approved ADA Access Plan will be a required element for groups seeking funding from MRAC’s new ADA Accessibility grant program, which will begin accepting applications in March. This workshop (offered monthly until the deadline) will help you accelerate accessibility, and meet your legal responsibility to provide access under the ADA, whether or not you plan to apply.
