Cultural Competence 2.0

Thursday, June 28, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

No cost to participate

We need to reboot how we think about culture and the goals people from other cultures have. Why did those people move here? Why have they chosen my neighborhood and community? I field these inquiries with a very simple response. They are looking for Safety, Significance and belonging, just as your ancestors did prior to your arrival. In this session we will discussion the similarities between cultures, perceived differences and create methods for better cultural awareness and allophilia.

Presented by Andre Koen. Andre helps government, educational, law enforcement and social service organizations manage and train staff, employees, and clients on diversity issues without blame, fault or guilt. His organization understands that people are doing the best they can with what they have, yet encourages them to examine themselves, explore other cultures, and become allies for others.

Koen works to move people’s behaviors, and he does this without pushing them or making them feel guilty. In a fair and balanced way that people can clearly hear as well as understand, he teaches individuals to dissect, analyze and make meaning of challenging issues. He motivates individuals to create something collaboratively.
