Bringing on Your First Contractor or Employee: Minimizing the Risks
Monday, January 28, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
No cost to participateTHIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELED BECAUSE OF WEATHER. It will be rescheduled.
Your organization is growing so fast that you need to pay someone to do work for you. Congratulations and beware. Bringing on a contractor or employee can help your organization reach new heights, but it can also create significant liability if not done right. During this session, we’ll talk about the differences between contractors and employees, the laws that apply to both, and strategies for minimizing legal liability. This is an excellent workshop to attend if you are considering applying for an MRAC Organizational Development grant to hire an employee.
Presented by Veena Iyer. Veena is a shareholder at Nilan Johnson Lewis PA. She counsels and represents employers in all areas of employment law. She specializes in counseling and representing nonprofits in a range of employment law matters and regularly advises clients and writes articles on religious accommodations in the employment setting. She has served as a law clerk for judges at the state and federal levels, and she previously worked for the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago representing low-income individuals in family, immigration and housing matters. She is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and an honors graduate of the University of Chicago.
If you would like to attend and participate in this workshop but require additional accommodations, please contact Bethany at bethany@mrac.org or 651.523.6388 in advance of the training.
