MRAC is excited to announce that our newest program director has joined the staff team with the hiring of Jovan C. Speller. Jovan began the role this week and will serve applicants from Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties. The search for a replacement for Greg Nielsen who served MRAC for 17 years and left in September brought many qualified and enthusiastic arts administrators to the application process and the selection was not easy, but we are confident that Jovan’s expertise and experience will benefit MRAC and those we serve in the community for the greatest impact.
Jovan has had a dedicated career in the arts as a curator, artist, and consultant. Most recently Jovan has served the local and national arts community as Owner and Managing Consultant at JCS Consulting. Jovan is a recipient of the 2018 McKnight Visual Artist Fellowship, the 2016/2017 Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship, and the 2015 MN State Arts Board Cultural Community Partnership grant.
Jovan has been a MRAC panelist and applicant, and joins MRAC with over 10 years of nonprofit experience. “I’m thrilled to be joining the MRAC team as the new program director. I’ve been a long time admirer of the impact MRAC has on the local arts community and I’m excited to become a part of this work. I look forward to sharing my deep commitment to expanding arts access and promoting the diverse ideas of the communities MRAC serves while passionately advocating for arts and artists.”
Jovan serves as co-director for the Arts Activities Support and the Community Arts grant programs along with program director Masami Kawazato who will focus her work with applicants from Hennepin County. Jovan can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 651-523-6381.
