The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) board of directors and staff is pleased to share MRAC’s recently adopted Racial Equity statement with the community.
MRAC improves arts access for communities in the seven county metropolitan area through support to artists and organizations. We believe this can be accomplished with a deliberate and authentic effort to have more diversity, to practice inclusivity and to work towards building more equitable systems.
MRAC’s board and staff have been working internally to better understand our own biases, to look at our programs, practices and policies, and to learn more about how we can truly improve arts access for everyone.
These three primary documents are available at this link on our website Racial Equity Work:
· MRAC’s Racial Equity Statement
· The background story on how we got here
· A glossary of words that are used in the Racial Equity Statement. This document is a work in progress and will be added to a dictionary of words that we feel are important in understanding and advancing MRAC’s Racial Equity work.
This statement is not the end of our journey, but a declaration of our commitment to advancing racial equity in our region.
Thank you for your work to serve the community through the arts.
